Dear All,
It is my pleasure to introduce you the new
RAS SAC co-chair for 2011, Marcelo.
After a long winter break, it is a great pleasure to have him on
board. The other co-chair, Alejandro continued his term for another year.
T.
Dear worldwide robotics Friends,
It is my pleasure to salute you from
Argentina. My name is Marcelo Leandro Moreyra
and I am candidate at the Universidad Nacional del Sur in Bahia
Blanca, Buenos Aires. The area of my
thesis work is vision-based perception for autonomous vehicle
navigation, and my main research
interests are image processing, data fusion and machine
learning.
I am an IEEE volunteer since 2000, having
participated actively in the student
branch of the Universidad Nacional del Comahue (Neuquén)
until 2007. In 2009 and 2010, I volunteered
as Argentina IEEE Section Student Activities Committee Chair
(http://ieee.org.ar/sac),
and at present
I still participate in this committee as Electronics Services
Coordinator.
I got involved in SAC activities of the
Robotics and Automation Society in
early 2010. At that time, Tamas proposed me to lead the
committee responsible
for the SAC Newsletter.
Counting this one, our NL has 11 issues so far and we are
determined to improve it even further.
As a RAS SAC co-chair, I will continue
working to ensure that the information
provided via the NL's is practical and useful for RAS students.
in the mean while, we need
your opinion and your help to do it so! Everyone is very welcome
to join these efforts.
I will also work with Alejandro and Tamas in the organization
and dissemination of student
activities at ICRA & IROS 2011, and through the other committee
projects.
Before concluding, I sincerely thank the RAS
Member Activities Board
for trusting in me to accomplish this task, mainly Prof. Stefano
Stramigioli and Tamas Haidegger.
I am really excited about being co-chair and I hope to stay an
active part of RAS.
Last but not least, I am eager to interact
with members from around
the world, and to make new IEEE friends! Looking forward to
hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Marcelo L. Moreyra

We are planning/preparing various activities
for this upcoming event in Shanghai,
China. The ICRA organization committee has put together a very
interesting schedule with almost every
robotics related topic imaginable. However, after a day of
intellectual hard work it is time to kick
back and get to know your fellow students in a more relaxed
setting. Additionally, for the students
who don't have to fly back home immediately we have organized
some interesting trips after the conference.
We have composed a mix of serious and fun activities around the
regular conference program. Some of
these activities will require us to make reservations and in any
case we do not want to leave any
participants behind, so we would like to know if you want to
participate. Feel free to suggest
student activities in the ICRA 2011 SAC activities page or email
us!
Here we have a list of planned activities:
informal lunch and opening drinks;
group photo; banquet; awards ceremony, Farewell party, Pub crawl
and Student Night.
We will send more details soon. Stay tuned
for registration!

One of the goals during this 2011 is to get
the Newsletter committee read more and
more. This requires that the information provided to students is
more useful and fits their needs.
This improvement process will involve further
efforts generating, collecting and
editing of the content of NL. To achieve this we need to add
more volunteers to the team!!
If you feel like joining the team, do not
hesitate and please write us!
Your contribution will go around the world!
Greetings!
Marcelo

The SAC committee is highly interested in the
proliferation of activities related
to robotics, mainly organized by students. We are particularly
interested in publishing the activities
organized by your local RAS chapters and to facilitate the
exchange of experiences for the generation
of new and better events.
In this way, we open this space as a channel
of communication between student
members of the society. If you are interested in publishing your
RAS event, please
write us
and we will send you the instructions to do it.
We look forward to hear from you!!

SRP in Robotics and Automation
Magazine
The March issue of RAS Robotics and
Automation Magazine (RAM) will feature a nice
introduction article on SRP. The article covers different
aspects of the reviewing process, providing some points of
attention and hints. Be sure to check it out!
We have been given the opportunity for a follow-up article for
the June issue. This is an open call
to all of you to contribute! If you have any ideas, suggestions,
please
let us know!
SRP on Facebook and LinkedIn
Ignacio Galiana
and Pablo Cerrada have set up a

SRP Website
We are still planning to set up a website for
the SRP program. It would be
very helpful if someone with web programming experience would
join us. If you want to volunteer,
please let us know via the mailing list,
or email Ludo
