IEEE RAS student council has been working hard to improve your
conference experience through various programs. We want to call your
attention to the great social and you are hereby invited to.
There is a composition of serious and fun activities around the
regular conference program. Some of these activities require us to make reservations and in any case
we do not want to leave any participants behind, so so let us know if you want to join.
You can register by sending an email to
email@example.com before October 10th!
Note: As the general conference is co-financed by multiple organizations, please be aware that at the
Lunch with Leaders and GOLD Lunch priority will be given to RAS members. (Indicate your membership in
the application email!)
Looking forward to an unforgettable IROS!
IEEE RAS SAC.
When such a great number of IEEE RAS students are together, the SAC
naturally has to organize some events! Like at ICRA we have composed a
mixture of events for you to join. You can simply register for the events
by sending an email with your preferences to me.
Below the various activities are listed. The meeting place for each activity
will likely be in front of the conference venue. Tentative meeting times are listed, but should
these change you will be notified by email.
- Student co-chair
In order to promote the interaction between students and established
researchers the SAC will try to arrange with the IROS organization to have students act
as co-chairs during the conference sessions. This is a great way to meet the Session
Chairs and gaining experience in how conferences actually work behind the scenes.
- Lunch with Leaders
The idea is to focus on a specific field of research each day. For this
lunch break a group of well known researchers and possibly/hopefully
industrial representatives will be invited for you to meet and share in some discussions
about the future directions of the field, or even your own research. Lunch will be provided,
but the number of attendees each day will be limited to 45. Please let us know if you have
a specific topic/research field which you would like to see put on the schedule!
- Informal lunch
To get to know each other early during the conference we would like to
go out and have lunch together. We will try to obtain a good reference for some traditional
Taiwanese food from a local organizer!
- GOLD lunch
The GOLD Luncheon introduces young professionals to the IEEE Robotics
and Automation Society (RAS) from standpoints of how it operates and
how to get involved with RAS activities (conference activities, member
activities, publication activities, and technical activities). A
limited number of lunches are available on a first-come, first-served
basis. Please register in advance; detailed information will follow.
- Visit to Taipei 101
A visit to Taipei is not complete without having seen the city at night
from one of the highest buildings in the world. Please let us know in advance if you are
planning to attend this event so that we can arrange for a group admission!
- Visit to Shilin Night Market
Taipei is home to various markets that are open during the entire night.
Especially Shilin Night Market is supposed to be a lively scene during night time.
- Exploring nightlife of Taipei
After the closing session the conference will officially have closed.
Of course this needs to be celebrated. This evening we want to go and explore the nightlife
- Karaoke night
One of the favourite passtimes of Taiwan (according to my information)
is Karaoke. To fully integrate into Taiwanese society we will go and seek for the nightingale
robotocist amongst ourselves!
- National Palace museum and hiking trip through Yangmingshan Park
The National Palace Museum is home to some of Taiwans most impressive
art and historic items. Even the museum itself is supposed to be a spectacle to see. The
plan is to spend approx. 2 hours in the museum. Afterwards we want to go an a hiking trip
through the beautiful Yangmingshan Park. There is a nice trail that start directly next to
the National Palace Museum. Make sure you have sturdy footwear, clothes, water and some
snacks with you! If you only want to join for the hiking trip please be at the National
Palace Museum at 13:00h.

IEEE is the world's largest professional association providing access to the industry's
most essential technical information, networking opportunities, career development tools and many other
exclusive benefits to its members. Learn more about these here.
In addition, IEEE has 38 societies that represent a wide range of technical interests by providing
publications, conferences, community networking, and many other benefits.
The Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) is
interested in both applied and theoretical issues in robotics and automation. Robotics is here
defined to include intelligent machines and systems used, for example, in space exploration, human
services, or manufacturing; whereas automation includes the use of automated methods in various
applications, for example, factory, office, home, laboratory automation, or transportation systems
to improve performance. The RAS Society provides aid in promoting close cooperation and exchange
of technical information among its Members and Affiliates, and to this end holds meetings for
the presentation of papers and their discussion, sponsors appropriate periodicals and special
technical publications. The Robotics and Automation Magazine
and the Transactions on Robotics
are the highest ranked journals in the field. We do not need to introduce the flagship conferences
of the RAS: ICRA and
IROS, both providing significant
discounts to members.
We are particularly inviting you to join the RAS Student Committee,
to be part of a great experience: having fun while acquiring new knowledge and developing your career.
You can learn more about our current activities from the regular RAS SAC Newsletter.
Below, you can see the variety of programs we are preparing for our colleagues at this IROS.
You are welcome to join! All in all, IEEE requires a very modest membership fee from students
compared to the direct and indirect benefits. Get involved today!
